So...in early January, Mike and I decided to tackle the downstairs bathroom -- it was old, dingy, and in desperate need of a facelift. Actually, it went something like this -- Mike may have been getting a little bit of cabin fever, and one night decided to take out the crappy little shower that was in the basement.
Little did we know (or we knew full well and were just a bit naive) it would turn out to be the most ambitious project we've ever tackled. So, in the first few months of my pregnancy we've plumbed (with the help of my Dad), drywalled, tiled, moved electrical boxes, while our nice new basement living room has been overrun by tools, dust, and a whole lot of crap. One things for sure -- it has not been a slow 3 months. I must say that Augusta has been very cooperative, not holding me back at all...that is until my head hits the pillow and then I'm out cold for the night.
The first step was to gut the bathroom - take out the tiny shower that you could barely bend over in to pick up the soap if you dropped it. We decided to steal some extra space from the laundry room on the other side of the bathroom (where the picture on the right was taken from) and make a large bathtub sized shower. A trip to costco, and we had what we needed - a glass walled shower with a one piece base
Handyman Harry came up and roughed in the plumbing after Mike and some of his guy friends (thanks David, Ben, Evan, etc) busted out the concrete to make room for the new drain. Then up went the concrete backerboard (the grey stuff) and then up went the tile (again, thanks Ben!)
Next post -- the shower completed - tile and doors, the floor and possibly the entire finished product (I am ridiculously slow at posting, so there's a high chance of that!)
